Bailing Out

The plane is crashing and the pilot and co-pilot are just looking for a soft spot to land. That is a good analogy someone else used to describe the US market today. It is no longer about Democrat and Republican. We are all in this TOGETHER. bailout )

What Be Your Nerd Type?
Your Result: Literature Nerd

Does sitting by a nice cozy fire, with a cup of hot tea/chocolate, and a book you can read for hours even when your eyes grow red and dry and you look sort of scary sitting there with your insomniac appearance? Then you fit this category perfectly! You love the power of the written word and it's eloquence; and you may like to read/write poetry or novels. You contribute to the smart people of today's society, however you can probably be overly-critical of works.

It's okay. I understand.

Sanctuary's DNI

There is a show called Sanctuary. It's a great SciFi type show with high quality story arc, acting, directing and renderings (since majority of the background is done on green screen) .  The pilot is only on the web at the moment , but it will probably be going to television soon along with a first season...  http://www.sanctuaryforall.com/social_sanctuary/profile.php

I have seen the entire pilot which is 8 webisodes (episodes broken down in order for viewers to download to their computer and watch as many times as they like, make a DVD of it and watch it on their TV).  There has been several fans that are in the business that seemed interested in the show as well.  They have started a Directing Notes for the Insane (DNI)  series on the shows forum.  http://forum.sanctuaryfans.com/forumdisplay.php?f=129

The DNI's are very eye opening.  They break down the scenes for each webisode and they just finished the first webisode.  I'm starting to understand the emotions the story evokes in me is in part due to the camera angles, especially when no words are spoken.  The director has to set up one shot to the next and make it a smooth transition or else risk jarring us out of the story and losing our attention.  I am learning a lot about what the Director is revealing to the audience by his or her choice in camera shots.  Who knew I would be having so much fun learning what the director is trying to portray to the audience.

I'm a designer by trade and no it has nothing to do with the entertainment business.  Anyways I start each project with a blank slate.  The client will usually give me an idea where to start... but it's fun, at times very challenging and other times very stressful (but I won't go into that).   At the end of the project two things are the most fun for me... 1) seeing the project come to "life"... and 2) seeing all the changes the project went through to get to the final product.  So I think the director does something similar, maybe??  The writer gives him/her direction with the story and it's their job to bring it to life.   So now I catch myself noticing camera angles and looking for clues regarding what's coming up later in the story for any show or movie I watch.  :~)

Interesting Conversations

For those that don't know what I do for a living, I won't bore you with the details, but there are a lot more men than women in the profession.  I, therefore, get my share of surprising and most of the time amusing comments.  There are those occasional instances in the past when I would attend a meeting with a co-worker to the clients office and they would assume that I was the secretary there solely for the purpose of taking notes.   They apparently weren't paying attention when introductions were being made, because at the end of the meeting they are impressed with how much I know.  When I explain I'm actually in charge of their project (as stated before the meeting), they seemed surprised.  I often wonder is that because they are embarrassed by the misunderstanding or because the secretary will be charge of their project. lol :p

Well a similar instance happened today.  I was calling different contractors to see if they would be interested in giving us a quote.   Most were just the standard exchange of information.  However, there was one extremely nice gentleman that seemed rather impressed that I was the one that worked on the project.  At this point he hasn't seen anything yet.  I don't know him and I haven't worked with his company before.  So I'm wondering why he is impressed that I did the work.  lol   So I am guessing tomorrow's meeting will be interesting.  I just hope he is still impressed when he finds out I actually went to school for this and I do this for a living.  :~)

Football Season

I always love this time of year.  The temperature will creep its way down the thermostat and a sigh of relief from the summer heat is heard throughout the state.  For those not suffering from a drought this season will eventually be rewarded with beautiful fall colors. Besides the cooler temperatures, and beautiful colors  another exciting event that will enlist the majority of my family will take place… football season.

Memories

My grandmother would have been 89 today.   I double checked this weekend when we put flowers down.  I'm sure I have talked to some of you about her.  Oh don't worry this isn't a sad entry… She passed away several years ago and the heart has healed and left in its place not scars but sweet memories.  The strongest memory I have is her laughter, followed by her hugs and kisses, and then the way she and I used to spend time talking about current events, music and politics.  You see I'm the youngest of 14 grandchildren, and she passed away one month before my High School graduation.   So I was always in awe that she respected my opinions and we had serious discussions on major events.  Of course we never did agree on music.  :D

I spent a lot of time with her the summer before she died.  I took a summer job right down the road from her.  Many times I would spend the night at her house rather than traveling much further away to my parent’s house.  There is one TV show that played reruns late at night and that is what we would always watch before going to bed.  She called the show the “old women” while the rest of the world called them “The Golden Girls”.  :D  She would be sitting on the edge of her chair laughing so hard she was crying and pushing up her glasses.  That memory is so fresh you would think it happened last night.  I still watch the “Golden Girls” whenever I see it come on, because it reminds me of her and those many summer nights.

We never know what our loved ones will leave behind.  The richest, I think, are the ones that leave behind sweet memories.  Tears filled with laughter.  So I will say I was richly blessed that God gave me the years we had, and especially the summer before you died.   I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.   Happy Birthday Grandmother! :D

First Post

Woohoo... ok so this is my very first post on LJ.  Still trying to work out all the bugs and get the design I want, so I am sure it will go through several changes.

Since I am new to LJ.  I'm sure there will be humorous mistakes and odd posts until I get the hang of it .

I'm not even sure who would read this, but I'll give it a go....
